What Should a Website Design Package Include? A UK Buyer’s Guide

A practical guide to comparing website design packages without getting distracted by vague feature lists or low headline prices.

“Website package” can describe almost anything. One provider may mean a four-page template with hosting. Another may mean a custom business website, copywriting, analytics, search planning, ongoing support and a defined monthly improvement service. The headline price only becomes useful when the scope is clear.

Start with the job the website has to do

A local trade website may need service pages, project proof, reviews, service-area context and a quote form that collects photographs. An ecommerce website needs product discovery, payment, fulfilment, account and return-policy decisions. An established professional-services business may need detailed expertise pages, team proof, integrations and a careful migration from an existing site.

Those are different products. Comparing them as “five-page websites” hides the part that actually affects quality and results.

What a professional website design package should make clear

  • How many pages or page types are included. A homepage, service template, project template and contact page can be more useful than ten duplicated pages.
  • Whether the design is genuinely tailored. Ask what is reused and what is changed around your brand, services, proof and customer experience.
  • Who supplies the words and images. Good copy and real photography frequently matter more than another animation.
  • What the enquiry or checkout journey includes. A website should do more than display information; it should make the next action easy.
  • What SEO means at launch. Titles, headings, crawlability, Search Console and page structure are different from a continuing SEO campaign.
  • What happens after launch. Hosting, updates, content changes, search work and support need defined boundaries.
  • What you own and what keeps costing money. Domain, hosting, software licences, third-party services and monthly agency work should be separated.

Compare the three common types of website package

Start by identifying what you are buying. These options solve different problems, so the cheapest monthly figure is not always a like-for-like comparison.

A managed website

A managed plan combines the website with the stated hosting and support. Check the page allowance, content responsibilities, update allowance and initial term. Launch search foundations are not automatically a continuing SEO campaign. See SmartyX managed website design and hosting for that route.

A website and ongoing SEO package

This combines a website build with defined continuing search work. Ask which services or products the pages will support, how existing search data affects the plan and what the monthly implementation includes. Compare the website design and SEO packages against those requirements, not only the number of pages.

A bespoke website or ecommerce project

Complex product options, migrations, recurring payments or specialist integrations need an individual brief. Ask which integrations have been assessed and which licences or provider fees are additional. Our bespoke website design and WooCommerce design pages explain those starting points.

Ask for an example page structure, not just a page count

For a locksmith, emergency lockouts and planned lock upgrades involve different customer decisions. For a removal company, a quote needs collection and delivery details, access information and dates. For an accountancy practice, customers may compare tax, bookkeeping and payroll expertise. These are examples of why structure and enquiry design belong in the proposal.

Compare the relevant locksmith website package, removals website package or accountant website package to see how the requirements differ. A package defines the agreed scope; it should not force every business into identical content.

Setup fee versus monthly fee

Where a package has both, the setup fee should relate to the initial website build or project setup. The recurring amount should pay for a defined continuing service. If the provider cannot explain what happens each month, the monthly price is difficult to evaluate.

Do not assume “monthly SEO” means a full SEO retainer. It may mean technical care, a small content allowance, page improvements, reporting or a mixture of these. Ask for the actual scope.

Look at the images before the bullet list

A web-design package should show the standard of design you can expect. Open the examples on a phone. Check whether the pages feel specific to the business or like the same template with different colours. Look at typography, photography, service hierarchy, forms and the amount of real proof.

Check the search architecture

If search visibility matters, ask which page owns each important buying intent. A plumber, for example, may need separate useful pages for boiler installation, servicing, repairs and emergency plumbing. A plasterer may need skimming, repairs, rendering and project content. A single generic “Services” page can make both search and customer understanding harder.

What should happen with an existing domain or website?

A package should not force a domain transfer, email migration or deletion of useful ranking URLs just because the agency prefers a clean account. Existing assets should be kept when they work. A redesign can be dramatic while preserving the domain, mailboxes, analytics and pages that already earn traffic.

Questions we would ask before buying

  • What is paid today and what repeats every month?
  • What pages and functionality are included?
  • Who creates or edits the content?
  • Can I see real live work?
  • What happens if I already own my domain and email?
  • What exactly happens each month after launch?
  • What is outside the package?
  • How are revisions, support and cancellations handled?
